Recently I got a few mails from my Croatian readers regarding my Visa in the States. I will try to answer the questions in this post because I think it is an interesting topic for everyone. Being an international student in the States requires a lot of preparation. My experiences with the Visa preparation are positive, there is nothing to worry about.
I got my regular tourist Visa 3 years ago for my NYC and Miami trips. For that you just have to go the Amercian Embassy webpage, fill out the form, upload a picture and make an appointment for the interview in your City’s embassy. The next day you can pick up your passport and your Visa in it. Easy and quick. I do not know anybody who got rejected for the tourist Visa.
For my Master degree program in the States, I needed a student visa, you can’t study in the States on a tourist visa. Therefore your university or institution will send you a list of all required documents, of course translated into English. I had to translate my Bachelor diploma, High school diploma and you will need a financial security to proof that you won’t be broke while studying overseas.
Luckily I had an international student advisor who explained every step and prepared me well for my interview at the embassy. You just have to proof that you know exactly your program and why you want to study overseas. My interview was maybe 2 minutes and that’s it. No big deal. Just make sure to start on time with the progress, it took me for 2 months to get everything ready.
All pictures were taken on Campus at Full Sail University by my talented friend Christian who's in the Film program. Check out his work: here
